Sign of the times #456: when a pricier, sit-down Korean restaurant (Temple) is replaced by an inexpensive Korean fast-food place. But who can complain about tasty, filling bites at recession-friendly prices, like traditional bibimbap made with brown or white rice, egg, various veggies, chili paste and a choice of meat or tofu ($7.75), steamed handmade vegetable and pork dumplings ($2.95 for four), spicy kimchi stew ($1.15) and a signature “Seoul Sandwich” of egg, pickled daikon, shitake mushrooms, bean sprouts and spicy house dressing on a toasted roll ($6.95). While there is seating at a long communal table abutting one wall and sparse tables for two along the other, the narrow, bare bones space lends itself more to takeout. In other words, expect it to be more bustling and transient than the train station in South Korea it’s named for.
