Retro and futuristic, Brasserie brings back an old name with nouvelle style. The subterranean restaurant, complete with video monitors above the bar announcing arrivals, is wrapped in glass and pearwood, cool as a freeze frame. The staircase evokes the Brasserie of yesteryear and a set from "2001." Brasserie veterans revel in the savory Provencale fish soup, floating a toast spread with rouille, a fiery sauce. The aromatic onion soup acts as a vaporizer when the lid of cheese is lifted. For a lighter meal, consider the fine roasted monkfish, perched atop a dried fig and fennel ragout; or the coq au vin.
