Le Pere Pinard
- Neighborhood: Lower East Side
- 175 Ludlow Street
- Manhattan, NY 10002
- 212-777-4917
The vibe is casual, which suits the patrons very well. Most of them come from the neighborhood or from farther "uptown," by which they mean the Village. There's also a good smattering of French expats, and you hear almost as much French spoken here on a Saturday night as you do English.
The menu clings pretty close to the traditional: salmon and sole filets, flank steak with burgundy and shallots, shell steak, steamed mussels, and salads are typical offerings. Weekend brunches go the familiar omelette-salad-sandwich route. What sets the place apart from its neighbors is its mastery of bistro culture and its bar scene, which, according to a manager, doesn't stop until the last drinker goes home.
