The same topsider-and-blazer set that filled Mortimers has remained loyal to the space even after its million-dollar transformation into an art nouveau brasserie. The surroundings are opulent: lots of wood paneling, fancy moldings, antique mirrors and turn-of-the-century chandeliers. Although too many tables have been shoehorned into the space, and the place gets pretty noisy during the peak dinner hours, none of the patrons seems to care. The menu sticks pretty closely to French brasserie fare, featuring grilled meats and fish, salads, a simply steamed bass and braised veal short ribs. Appetizers include several tartares as well as a beef carpaccio with fennel.
