Vegetarians still get a bad rap sometimes, which is why they need a safe haven to commiserate about the carnivorous outer world. In Midtown, the punchy Crisp serves quickie Middle Eastern-influenced vegetarian food, like handbag sandwiches in a pita with herbed yogurt and Greek salad or hummus bowls with eggplant and pine nuts. The concept—fast food—is necessary in case the protein-starved heroes need to make a sudden getaway from the lynch mob of beefeaters banging at the floor-to-ceiling glass window. And everything in the joint is eco-friendly, bio-degradable and reusable—the house-blended ice-tea cups are made out of Moby composte and the colorful chairs are broken down from that guy who ran Pure Food and Wine.
