Schnitzel—that crisp, thinly-pounded chicken breast that dominates the cheap eats scene is Israel—arrives in Midtown in the former City Burger space. Not to be confused with German/Austrian veal and pork schnitzel, this Glatt Kosher version is all-chicken and served as a sandwich. Owner Ephy Uzan hails from Tel Aviv, so you can be sure he knows his way around a breaded chicken cutlet. The menu includes eight fried versions and five grilled—everything from the standard bread-crumb coated Israeli to spicy Spanish and corn-flake coated American varieties. With a sandwich and fries setting you back $14, it's unlikely that Express will usurp much of Subway's $5 foot long market, but if it's something Kosher or a little out of the ordinary you're looking for, this will certainly fit the bill.
