Star Michael White, also of Convivio, dominates East Side Italian, this time with modern stylings and a forward-thinking menu. Contemporary, sleek décor is anchored by a glass wall of wine bottles; the wine list itself numbers well over 2,000. White's perspective can be best described as northern Italian with a greenmarket influence, in dishes like cold tomato soup with fresh mozzarella and basil (a Caprese salad in a cup!), rosemary-roasted squab with morel mushrooms, and sautéed pink snapper with artichoke and mint (both a sticker-shocking $38).
