A departure from the big, splashy openings in the UWS of late, this classic Italian restaurant in the former NorthWest space doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is: an upscale neighborhood joint with simple, satisfying fare. Named for the Venetian gothic palace on Piazza San Marco, the minimalist dining room aims to capture that same elegant sophistication, but the décor is where the focus on Veneto ends: Drawing upon all of Italy for inspiration rather than spotlight a particular region, the result is a mélange of arugula salad with sherry roasted pears and melted gorgonzola cheese, chicken saltimbocca and a range of thin-crust pizzas a la Bianca, Margherita and Tartufo (made with truffles, not ice cream). Organic and sustainable ingredients are used when possible, and you can BYO-wine for a corkage fee.
