Since his eponymous Italian eatery opened a few years ago, Iacopo Falai is now better known as the white knight of Clinton Street than as a former pastry chef at Le Cirque. Something about this Tuscan gem has managed to attract both up- and downtowners, foodies and newbies alike. Perhaps it's the hype—the Falai Panetteria annex is nearby, and Caffe Falai a little further west. Or the decor—impeccable and unpredictable white-on-white, LES-slim and with a charming outdoor garden. But most likely it's the cuisine (original, dreamy, and not precious). Cocoa-flavored farfalle with crawfish and chives, poached lobster, pan-seared venison loin—all that without even mentioning the standout breads or desserts.
