Enrico Malta must’ve rocked at Monopoly: The
restaurateur, who already co-owns seven Hell’s Kitchen eateries
(including Bocca di Bacco, Puttanesca and Film Center Cafe), adds an
eighth spot to his game board with this compact Italian wine bar along
West 44th Street. “A lot of neighborhoods don’t have the duality that
this area has: a pre-theater crowd and a neighborhood crowd,” Malta
says. About 150 wines are available, including selections from Sicily,
where Malta was born. The affordable menu—everything maxes out at about
$12—spans everything from small plates to panini to full-on noshes like
braised beef short ribs with gnocchi.
