Giardino D'Oro: User Reviews
I must admit after reading the reviews I was a bit hesitant to go to Giardino D'Oro. However I can honestly say that it was one of the most professional and friendly restaurant I have ever been to. Working downtown I am always so used to restaurants trying to get you out the door. From the moment I walked in, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were a party of 6, but half of our party was late. They were extremely patient as to wait for the rest of our party. We had a nice room downstairs that was semi private. I got a view of the wine cellar which is really beautiful. The waiter was extremely nice and made us laugh. The owner Benny recommended some excellent dishes. I had the fried calamari as an appetizer (which was to die for). For the main course I had the Calamari ALL' Arrabbiata. It was delicious!!!! My friends and I had a great time. I must recommended for you all to try the chocolate moose cake. At the end of the night the owner Benny gave us a shot on the house. I have to recommended Giardino D'Oro for anyone who is looking to have a fun care free dinner without any worries. The wine cellar also looks like a great place to have a private party! When I first read the reviews I did not want to come, but after seeing it for my self I must admit it was great!

We went to celebrate a special occasion and on a recommendation. At first all was fine, but once we looked at the wine menu they insisted on selling us the higher priced but we wanted a reasonable bottle. Though the wine was still expensive, I don' think they were happy with our choice and the service went down hill. They approached us about 6 times from moment they opened the wine asking if we were ready to order though it was barely 7pm.
At one point my phone ringer went off (I usually have it off and forgot this one time) and I told my eating companion "oops that's my musician friend's music on my ringer" and as I was turning it off and putting it on silent the "manager" Benny barked at us "You can't play music! Turn that music off!" I explained it wasn't music but my ringer and I was in process of turning it off. I felt like a child being chastised instead of an paying adult. We decided to pay for our wine and leave. One of the waiters was shocked and asked what happened, while this Benny person gladly saw us leave. My partner said sarcastically "great service" and Benny smiled as if relieved we were leaving. I was disgusted since they only had 3 tables including us.
Unacceptable behavior on his part--save your money folks. There are plenty of high quality, better priced restaurants with excellent service in New York.

We like to support neighborhood establishments so we thought we would give Giardino D'Oro a try. I had no more opened the front door before the waiter barked at me to remove my hat...nice greeting. It was cold out, but of course I had planned to remove my cap on the way to the table.
I asked to view the wine list. The waiter said they did not have one. We noticed a fellow waiter nearby and explained to him that our server was abrupt and rude. He replied, "So what do you want me to do about it?" Shocking. There was only one other table occupied in the place and one would think they would be happy for the business, especially in this trying economy.
So, we decided to leave and goelsewhere. On our way home we passed Giardino D'Oro and they were closed. Hopefully the owner of this establishment will see this and take action...before his staff puts him out of business!"
