Savoia

Expertly-cooked Neapolitan pizza on overheated Smith Street, Savoia has gone from a casual Italian neighborhood joint to a see-and-be-scene spot in hipsterized Carroll Gardens. The central focus at the warm, wooden eatery is the wood-burning oven, which churns out nearly two dozen thin, crispy, traditional pies like Pere e Zola (pear, walnut, gorgonzola and mozzarella) and Alpina (pancetta, scallions, gruyere and mozzarella). Some interesting entrees, like cornish hen, and a choose-your-own cheese plate are nice bookends. A people-watching seat outside, and a spotty reservation/delivery phone line, are signs Savoia is clinging to its laid back past.
