Totonno Pizzeria Napolitano
- Neighborhood: Coney Island
- 1524 Neptune Ave
- Brooklyn, NY 11224
- 718-372-8606
- Price range: $$$ ($16-$25)
Though the pizza cognoscenti may not agree on whether Totonno’s paper-thin-crust pies are the best in the city, one thing’s for sure: It’s the oldest continuously operating family-run pizzeria in the game. Located in the same spot since it opened in 1924, it still retains some of that retro charm with black and white checkered floors and white walls littered with accolades and pictures accumulated through the years. The menu offers pastas, salads and everything parmigiana (chicken, eggplant, veal), but you’d be crazy not to get one of the pizzas cooked in the coal-oven and sold by the pie—no slices here—until the dough runs out. The mozzarella cheese is handmade, the tomatoes are imported from Italy and the toppings you choose yourself, as the only options presented are margherita, Bianca and Neapolitan. Top it off with a bottled Brooklyn beer or one of the homemade ice creams.
