Spoiled food lovers residing in Hell's Kitchen or the Village might yawn when they hear of a new wine bar opening. Not so for those in Astoria—a great place to grab great Greek fare, but little else. Hence the excitement that's greeting 30th Avenue's inviting Italian wine bar Vesta. The all-Italian wine list boasts affordable glasses ($6.50-$9.50) and bottles ($24-$38), and the limited food menu is packed with classics. So far Astorians have adopted the orecchiette with house-made sausage and tomato basil sauce as an early favorite, while the striped bass with couscous, lemon and mint is a lighter option. Those in-the-know have been bugging owner Joe Falco for the "Baby Jesus" date cake—so named because of the vociferous "baby Jesus!" exclamation from an early taster.
