New Yorkers love them a quality gastropub combining pints (or four) with hearty bites. It's a no-brainer for post-work excess. Lesser known is the Japanese version of the practice, the izakaya—which translates into is a wide assortment of easily shared small plates, washed down with sake or beer. Williamsburg's Sui Ren serves a wide range of yakatori skewers (eel, duck breast, Japanese smelt) and fried chicken of many stripes (black pepper chicken wing, deep-fried chicken thigh). The owners aim to open a gallery in the near future, which works with the nabe's penchant for multi-faceted venues.
