Friedman's Delicatessan
- Neighborhood: Meatpacking District
- 75 Ninth Avenue
- New York, NY 10011
- 212-929-7100
Downtown has Katz's, Upper West Side has Zabar's, Murray Hill now has Second Avenue Deli and now Barry Friedman (owner of Pastrami Queen) gets Chelsea a seat in the shvitz room of Jewish New York delis. First thing's first: it's kosher. With that out of the way, pastrami purists can keep reading and know that this 50-seat spot is located about halfway inside the Chelsea Market. All the standards are homemade and cured, cooked, fried, pickled, drained, salted and beaten on the premise—from the kreplach to the corned beef to the blueberry blintzes to the chopped liver. And something extra extra lean for the gay community.
