Rebecca's Latin Cuisine
Rebecca's Latin Cuisine is a no-frills Boerum Hill lunch counter dishing out a range of Mexican and Caribbean fare. Owner Angel Ojeda has lived in the area for over 36 years, and started out his first restaurant venture by printing an ambitious menu with dozens of options. Now he realizes, "I bit off more than I could chew," so he's paring down the list to a more manageable size. The range is still impressive: breakfast offers a lumberjack special with two pancakes, two eggs, bacon, sausage and coffee, lunch options include burgers and a chicken parm sandwich, and dinner features a variety of stews, roast pork, pork chops and tripe soup. Of course, true to its name, south-of-the-border options include tacos, fajitas, tostadas and nachos. As the business matures, Ojeda plans to add a section of traditional cuchifritos (fried soul food) like blood pudding and pig ears that appeal to Caribbean immigrants looking for a taste of home.
