Mercadito, a small, intimate spot on Avenue B, serves up some of the best Mexican food in the City. No greasy burritos here--try the tilapia tacos with manchego cheese, or the lime-marinated skirt steak. If you like seafood, try Mercadito's fantastic ceviches, especially the Callo de Hacha (Mexican bay scallops, marinated in a sweet/spicy orange habanero broth). For drinks, they serve beer, wine, sangria and tequila--no other liquor--and they make a nice margarita. Make sure you ask for a table in their "hacienda", an indoor patio area in the back.

I went to a food event last night with many restaurants featured, and there were many delicious dishes that I tried that I now need to eat in full instead of a sample! These were some of my favorites.
