Named after a town in Mexico known for its tacos, this taqueria honors it well by stuffing homemade corn and flour tortilla shells with layers of spiced pork roasted on a spit, chorizo, pollo or carne asada, a charred steak garnished with onion and cilantro. More unusual fillings like tongue, cabeza, cueritos (pig’s feet) and tripa are also served with spicy red and green salsas on the side, but if that’s outside your comfort zone, stick to the pork-stuffed tamale or mild enchiladas. The wood-paneled dining room swells with the Spanish language, from the staff to the customers to the music playing on the jukebox. Tacos aren’t the only items that make this Sunset Park spot destination dining: the juicy coctel de camarones, essentially boiled shrimp cocktail served with avocado wedges, lime and a sweet sauce, is a popular starter that’s best washed down with an icy cold horchata.
