At Drom, it’s all Gypsy all the time, and we’re not talking Patti LuPone as Mama Rose. The Alphabet City club hosts a steady stream of musicians focusing on Mediterranean beats and Balkan tunes. When the dance floor isn’t full of World music fans, the tables are full of diners looking for a similarly international snack. The menu fits the music with treats like hummus, marinated olives, olive salads, and Spanish chorizo. Thankfully, you won’t have to deal with the massive crowds that frequent other downtown clubs if you want to head here on a Friday or Saturday night. Though you may be able to skip the lines, you won’t be able to skip the cover—admission is charged on the busier nights. Even so, is it so bad to pay a few extra dollars to get into something called “The Sixth Annual Gypsy Festival”? We think not.
