Presidential Menu at Bull & Bear
The historic Waldorf-Astoria
has hosted every U.S.
president since Herbert Hoover in its Presidential Suite, and while your
stimulus money might not cover an overnight stay (it goes for $7,000 a night),
it can get you a taste of the
presidential treatment.
The hotel’s
Bull & Bear Steakhouse offers a $500 four-course tasting menu based on
meals served to presidents past, which includes the seared scallop with Osetra
caviar and potato-chive mousseline (pictured, left) served to Bill Clinton at a Heads of State
Dinner in 2000. The roasted rack of lamb with saffron potatoes,
candied eggplant and pickled onion was prepared for Bush Senior, while the Chocolate Extravaganza is the preferred dessert of Bush Junior. Paired with wine,
the meal is served in the private Wine Library by white-gloved butlers on the
same china used for visiting presidents.
