Omakase Menu at Morimoto
If you’re having difficulty choosing how to splurge your stimulus cash, why not have someone else decide for you? At Morimoto, ordering the omakase menu, which literally translates to “chef’s choice,” means leaving your stomach in the expert hands of Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. A regular omakase menu starts at $125 and goes up from there, depending on what’s served, but for $600 you can expect goodies like live Botan Ebi (sweet shrimp) cooked in Dom Perignon, caviar tempura with gin crème fraiche, foie gras chawan mushi, and fluke sashimi with summer black truffle.
You can also pile on the chef’s seasonal exotic sushi selection, including Oh-Toro, Sayori (needlefish), baby Japanese cuttlefish and sake-braised abalone. If you’re not comfortable surrendering your taste buds to an unknown fate, you can always go all out with Morimoto’s proprietary “1972” sake, which costs $504 for a 500 milliliter bottle—although with this approach, the rest of your night might end up being the wild card.
