Ugly: 10 Downing
We said: California cool comes to the Village with this market-driven restaurant from the same folks behind 5 Ninth. This "new American bistro" takes its cue from the California Cuisine movement of the ‘80s, which emphasized farm-raised ingredients with a fusion flair, only this time chef Scott Bryan (Veritas) puts a Mediterranean spin on things.
Reality: Replace Bryan with criminally over-blogged (or was that criminal to the blogs?) Jason Neroni. Add some more gossip, a couple plywood photos...and that's all we know about this supposed market-driven spot, which has yet to open. Oh yeah, this just in: There's a clock. When we sent our photog to investigate, he snapped this photo, so apparently there are some meetings going on—hopefully, to finally hammer out that long-gestating opening date.
