You may be shocked to find, based on the ambiguous name, that La Pizzetta in Cobble Hill/Brooklyn Heights is dishing up brick-oven pizza pies. Twenty-five varieties of thin, slightly charred pizzas emerge piping hot from the open kitchen's brick oven—from a classic margherita to a more complex wild mushroom, spinach, gorgonzola, mozzarella, artichoke, black olive and cherry tomato offering.

Since this hood is crawling with kids, and youngsters are notorious pizza hounds, expect families sharing a few pies side-by-side with casually preppy brownstowner couples. The decor leans towards kitsch (colanders and cheese graters stand in for lampshades), but the casual atmosphere, the aim-to-please service, and a nice selection of salads, bruschette and imported meats and cheeses should scratch the hood's pizza-parlor itch. Just don’t let the low-priced pies fool you: They’re on the small side, so order one per person if you’re hungry.
