Just okay pizza

I have been here a few times and the pizza is decent but overpriced. I think South Brooklyn Pizza wants to be something its not. It seems to have started out as trying to be more of a NY culinary experience that only serves margherita pizza and chocolate chip cookies but as time went on, they didnt do either of those things well enough to make a name for themselves. Plus it has far too much of a sports bar vibe. So now they are branching out on the menu (more seafood) and embracing for the bar-like feel like it is. It makes it a better experience but its still too pricey for what you get and the service is completely spotty.

You may not want the company of girls doing shots and cheering each other on. Kind of like trying to have dinner in a sorority party.
Very annoying.
Go to Lucali - it's waaaaaaaay better anyhow and a professional grown up restaurant.

Sadly, the amateur style at SBP fails to raise the pizza to respectable levels. At $12 a pie and over an hour wait, I want something worth the wait. This pie did not deliver. Although I was assured that toppings were on the way, there is no telling when they will arrive at this shady location. The fancy imported antique oven seemingly does nothing to improve the skills of the pizza maker.

Considering Lucali's is around the corner, I'm not sure I will venture back to this spot. The oven is impressive, but not sure the chefs know what to do with it yet. It was hard to taste the pizza because it was so charred. I like my pizza crispy - but this was a little too much. The sauce was tasty - but was missing something. I'd give them some time, but otherwise head towards greener pastures.
