Pommes Frites
- Neighborhood: East Village
- 123 Second Ave.

- 212-674-1234
- Price range: $ (Under $9)
This tiny East Village mainstay packs in crowds day and night despite the fact that they offer nothing but Belgian fries (or frites.) What makes Belgian fries so great? Not only are they double-fried, but they're typically eaten with a variety of interesting sauces and dips (Pommes Frites has their long list written on a suspended blackboard.) Over 30 to choose from, highlights include Irish Curry, Rosemary Garlic Mayo, Sweet Chili, and Pomegranate Teriyaki. The sauces clock in at $.75 each but the classics (ketchup, yellow mustard, mayo, vinegar, chopped onions) are free. Not surprisingly, the joint is most packed on weekends after the neighborhood bars let out.
