Banh Mi 172 sounds like the 172nd outpost of a phenomenally successful chain of Asian sandwich shops, not merely a way to signify the location of this nicely proportioned shop, formerly a Polish speciality-food emporium, in that gastro-yourself-sick-fest called Williamsburg. Fortunately, the eats, conjured up with brio by proprietor Dung Trinh, are right in the zone—a smart intermingling of well-spiced meats and nonmeat fillers, plus a fetish for fresh baguettes that borders on the addictive. An adjacent—and more spacious—restaurant is planned by Trinh, to be called An Nhau.
