Cafe Centro
- Neighborhood: Midtown East
- 200 Park Ave.
- New York, NY 10017
- 212-818-1222
- Price range: $$$$ ($26-$30)
This noisy, bold restaurant a few steps from Grand Central has a big open kitchen and a comfortable dining room crowded with office workers and commuters at lunchtime and on into the evening. It comes as close as New York gets to being a classic European station buffet.
The menu hews to the familiar: great burgers in the beer bar, roast chicken, soft-shell crabs in season, steak frites. Outdoors, there's a cafe, and in the bar you'll find the masters of Darien, Scarsdale, and Greenwich stopping in for a quick one on their way back to the suburbs.
