After testing the waters in the chain-friendly environs of Fifth Avenue, Morton's The Steakhouse has hopped boroughs, opening their second NYC location in downtown Brooklyn. Bringing the fight right to Peter Luger's turf is a bold move. But the chain, which started 30 years ago in Chicago (a notable beef town in its own right), is hedging its bets by opening near the Brooklyn Marriott and the courthouse—no doubt carnivorous prosecutors and defense attorneys will negotiate plea bargains over a lunch featuring prime cuts of beef. And it's not too hard to imagine victorious litigators stopping by the 12*21 Bar for celebratory libations and bar bites like filet mignon sandwiches and oysters on the half shell. On the other hand, their losing counterparts may want to dip into the location’s 1,800-bottle wine vault to find a nice vino to drown their sorrows.
