Owners Craig Samuel and Ben Grossman have won the hearts and stomachs of Fort Green with their adjoining spots, barbecue haven Smoke Joint and urban "general store" Little Piggy (Market). Now, this duo are bringing their down-home, cholesterol-be-damned cuisine to Bed-Stuy with Southern cooking joint Peaches. The seasonal menu changes daily, but the locals have shown a particular fondness for the watermelon salad with pickled ginger and mint, the fried green tomatoes, and a blackened tilapia with farm-fresh veggies. While some dishes follow the time-honored Southern tradition of turning a blind eye to waistlines and calorie counts, there's a nod to the more health-conscious New York diners with plates like summer squash salad, barbecue shrimp and the aforementioned tilapia. But desserts like ice cream sandwiches featuring Il Laboratorio del Gelato (owner Samuel jokingly crows that at least it's "from the South of Manhattan!") will break even the staunchest health nut's resolve.

Need to go for seconds
I went to a food event last night with many restaurants featured, and there were many delicious dishes that I tried that I now need to eat in full instead of a sample! These were some of my favorites.
