Wahoo's Fish Taco
There's always been something slightly illicit about eating fish tacos in New York: it's a bit too laid-back, too cool, too California. It's like admitting that what you really want to do is leave New York. But the west coast has seen our problem and responded with Wahoo's, a surf-inspired, Cali-born restaurant serving a mash-up of flavors from Brazil, Asia, and Mexico. What you get there is tacos filled with fish (grilled or cajun), carnitas, carne asada, or polynesian-marinated shrimp; nachos and fries; bowls named Maui, Kalua Pig, and Banzai; and pitchers of beer. It's the perfect post-surfing snack if you don't mind the 90 minute trip from Rockaway Beach; otherwise, it's a fine post-daydreaming lunch for Park Ave suits.
