A feast fit for foodie kings (and queens). But who reigned supreme at the Wine & Food Fest's patty bonanza?
This year’s Burger Bash, a marquee event at the 2010 NYC Wine & Food Festival, got back to the basics. Gone were past controversies like patty melts masquerading as burgers and seafood-centric restaurants stealing the meaty prize.
Even attention-grabber Spike Mendelsohn, who won last year's critics' award and created a splash by hiring cheerleaders to rally for him, couldn’t woo the crowds with his antics. He swapped last year’s cheerleaders for a crown, cape and scantily clad queens, but his bid for royalty did not translate into a 2010 win at this year's Burger Bash.
The judges’ award was only shocking in that it was such an obvious choice. Shake Shack, a perennial favorite, beat out a slew of stunt burgers with their simple beef and American cheese formula. Look forward to even longer lines in the future.
The people spoke, and they chose Food Network veteran Bobby Flay, who wowed with his “crunchified” approach. Who knew something as simple as putting chips in a burger would get the job done?
