Grubbing up and partying down for a good cause with Akhtar Nawab, Marc Murphy, Chris Santos, more
Last night, a bevy of NYC's favorite chefs, food trucks, pitmasters, pastry chefs and food personalities gathered at the Metropolitan Pavilion to raise funds for City Harvest at the annual Summer in the City event. Guests also had the chance to bid in the silent auction while noshing on choice grub: grilled octopus salad from Dressler, "duck steak" with baby Japanese turnips and chilled watermelom from New Leaf Cafe, and pulled pork sliders from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que.
Brooklyn's favorite Montreal Jewish deli, Mile End, dished out chopped liver like you wished your grandma made, topped with suspiciously crunchy, almost porcine bits which turned out to be crispy chicken skin. Oh my. Our favorite, though, came from Ed's Chowder House, who knocked our socks off with a summer salad of sweet lump crab, heirloom tomatoes and watermelon kissed with a delicate tomato-and watermelon-water vinaigrette.
On the sweet side, L'Artusi presented guests with an elegant olive oil cake with whipped cream and boozy raisins, while perennial party favorite Ron-Ben Israel played with candy-bar-themed cakes, including their take on Almond Joy. To close out the silent auction, indie rockers Savoir Adore took to the stage to keep the bidders entertained.
