Guac Rock 2011
The kids from Nachos NY threw another boat party last night, and there were bowls of guacamole and bands aplenty (not to mention free tequila) aboard The Jewel Monday night. Avocado queen Rachel Anderson reprised all the winning recipes from the most recent Guactacular showdown for the cruise, as her crew of helpers frantically mashed avocados shipboard before setting off.
And wouldn't you know it? The People's Choice winner was indeed the best of the bunch. Who'da thunk that raisins and avocado went so well together, with a little cumin to help them get to know each other?
We were secretly there not just for the chips and dip, but to see one of our band crushes, The So So Glos tear it up on the East River, and they played us all the way home and back to the docks. And in all our days of boat-party photography at Metromix, we've never experienced a lightning storm at sea. Just as we pulled up to the Statue of Liberty, the heavens opened and pelted us with rain as the skies over Jersey City lit up with electricity. A swashbuckling beer-fueled adventure with lots of avocados for provisions.
(Hey, fun time people! Metromix NYC is trying to meet one million people this summer. If you see yourself in one of these photos, let us know…and you could join us at an end-of-the-summer party! Details coming soon)
