It’s a lotta latke! Soho gets into the holiday spirit with this grand cook-off.
Not since its 1990s glory days has the "palooza" suffix sounded so captivating! On Monday, Soho's Great Performances Kitchen hosted this potato-pancake extravaganza that featured four diverse eateries squaring off with their take on this Hanukkah treat. Participants included the Grand Ballroom at the Plaza Hotel (whose chef, Jack Kiggins, served a duo topped with shaved truffles, and smoked salmon and caviar) and El Café at El Museo del Barrio (whose latkes, from chef Victoria Saldana, came with peppers and a spicy-citrusy avocado sauce). In the end, the grand prize went to Dizzy's Club Coca Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center, whose latkes were garnished with black bean-and-corn relish, tomato jam and micro-greens.
