Amanda Cohen, April Bloomfield and other top chefs cook up a benefit for Hurricane Irene victims
At the fourth annual Let Us Eat Local tasting gala, hosted by Just Food at the Altman building on Wednesday and featuring a bevy of NYC top chefs, corn seemed to be the star of the night. Tops on our list: The Spotted Pig’s corn soup with ham hocks and corn relish, dell'anima’s tomato soup with roasted garlic crostini (perfection after it soaked in the soup for just a few), Telepan’s corn bread pudding in mushroom corn broth. Other standout bites included Print’s fromage blanc mousse and Untitled's fried bologna sandwich. Diner satisfaction extended beyond the gastronomic: Proceeds from the event will support Hurricane Irene relief efforts and benefit local farmers hit hard by the storm.
