Scott Conant, Missy Robbins, Joey Campanaro and Michael White bring a dish to pass
In what has become a holiday tradition, scrappy culinary magazine Saveur threw their annual chef potluck at the penthouse of the Cooper Square Hotel. First observation: When you advertise that Marea’s Michael White will be hand-delivering a pan of lasagna Bolognese, people will show up. Along with the beautiful Eaters, Grub Streets, Edibles, Zagats, Serious Eats, Thrillists and Josh Ozersky, we spotted some of NYC’s top-shelf talents. Joey Campanaro, George Mendes, Scott Conant (rocking a Yankees cap low, all Leo DiCaprio–style), Missy Robbins, Jose Garces and Anita Lo were in the house (more like hotel room, really).
Robbins dared to serve latkes. By dare, we mean restaurant latkes usually suck. Hers did not, preserving crispness even after a couple hours in the steam room. Campanaro—who is now splitting time between NYC and Philly while opening his Queens Village Mediterranean joint Village Belle—went simple with skewered eggplant parm, layered to perfection. Bravo Saveur. You're still the coolest kid at the lunch table. —Matt Rodbard
