Marc Murphy and crew with their glazed pork belly slider with pickled carrot and celery root remoulade
Saveur Magazine, the magazine that is "all about authenticity"—so said editor-in-chief James Oseland—threw an authentically great barbecue bash at Pier 66 last night, filling the air over the Hudson River with the smell of smoky deliciousness.
Metromix fave Marc Murphy of Landmarc and Ditch Plains was on hand to advise us after we sampled his glazed pork belly sliders: "You can't go wrong with pork belly!"—no you can't, indeed—before adding, "If you only eat one more thing, you have to go to Dan over at ABC Kitchen." So away we went for a taste of Dan Kluger's admittedly excellent barbecued brisket sliders with spicy coleslaw.
Marco Canora's team from Hearth grilled up lamb ribs that were so tender, we picked one up and it quite literally fell off the bone and back on to the plate. Lamb seemed to be the order of the day, and we saw a lot of lamb ribs and lamb T-bones and lamb sausages. Bucking the trend was Marlow & Sons' Sean Rembold ("They called us when they needed someone from Brooklyn!"), who was dishing out juicy little rabbit burgers.
(Hey, fun time people! Metromix NYC is trying to meet one million people this summer. If you see yourself in one of these photos, let us know…and you could join us at an end-of-the-summer party! Details coming soon)
