The tacos wowed. The tequila flowed. The peeps busted out the dance moves.
Giving the NYC Wine & Food Festival a Latin American flair, Bobby Flay hosted the sold-out The Art of the Taco at 82 Mercer on Saturday and invited nearly 30 top NYC chefs to put their own unique spin on the traditional Mexican staple.
Some of our favorite tacos included Hecho en Dumbo's taco campechanos, the combination of steak and pork belly chorizo in a warm tortilla made our tummys happy. Mercadito's tacos de carnitas also did not disappoint: The braised pork carnitas with chile de arbol oil and peanuts had a kick that kept us coming back for sevenths.
Riverpark was a hit with the crowd, judging by the sheer number of double-taco-plate-fisting, with their unique oyster tacos, stuffed with green tomato, lime and onions. Commerce's gourmet spin on the taco also dazzled, with foie gras complementing the juicy grilled chicken inside.
Of course, no proper taco festival would be complete without plenty of tequila flowing, which sprouted plenty of dance-offs between patrons and chefs who grooved late into the night, until the lights came on.
