STEAKHOUSE. They like things big at Del Frisco's. To start with, the space sprawls over three floors and seats up to 450 at a time. The bartenders pour healthy-sized drinks, and the steaks are huge. All of which is to be expected. The restaurant has its roots in the Lone Star State, and it has brought an endearing Texas style to the big city.
The steaks are served nicely charred with the usual sides: creamed spinach, an enormous pile of onion rings, fried potatoes sliced thin and fried to a crisp - maybe the best potato chips in the city. If you're not into beef, there are mammoth lobster tails, as well as veal and chicken.
Predictably, the lunchtime crowd draws from the corporate offices that are thick along this part of Sixth Avenue - there are lots of well-fed guys in suits at those tables. Evenings, theatergoers and tourists add to the mix. The bar gets very busy after work with a good-time crowd that eventually drifts into the dining room. It can get pretty noisy at peak hours, and the friendly staff can get a little harried.
