Known to many New Yorkers as the restaurant made infamous as a result of firebrand owner Jeffrey Chodorow's full-page reprisal against a specific unimpressed critic, The Kobe Club is essentially an excessive ode to pricey cuts of beef. The menu features top cuts of Japanese, Australian and American Wagyu (Kobe) as well as American prime and a variety of signature meat and seafood offerings. The Japanese-themed décor is dark, dramatic and hackneyed—expect 2,000 suspended Samurai swords dangling above patrons, jet black bricks, even a sword-shaped bar. While opinions on the food vary across the board, there’s one thing agreed upon: the jaw-dropping— obnoxious, even—prices, alienating even the largest foodie, lest they have an oversized expense account or a surplus of cash to blow on tartare.
