UES denizens come to Kai for superb kaiseki sushi in a quiet, almost reflective setting. Modern meets traditional in the sleek dining room, where seating comes in the form of tables, chef's counter or private rooms. Menu prices reflect the tony location, but several prix-fixe menus allow options. If the Omakase prix-fixe—$150-$200 a pop—is too steep for your wallet, try the Summer prix-fixe: 8 courses for $85. All meals come served with tea pairings (the restaurant is an extension of the Ito En tea company, whose flagship store sits at street level).
