Apollo Theater
- Neighborhood: Central Harlem
- 253 W 125th St
- New York, NY 10027
- 212-531-5300
Since 1914, this ornate Harlem theater has hosted the who’s who of contemporary African-American music – from Billie Holiday and Stevie Wonder to Michael Jackson and James Brown (after the soul singer’s death in 2006, his body was put on display on the very stage he got his feelin). Catch the Apollo Amateur Night every Wednesday at 7:30PM, which serves as the qualifying rounds for the famous (and brutally honest) Showtime television program.
