This is the Manhattan branch of the New Orleans-based chain of steakhouses that reaches clear across the country (and has a few outposts in places like Hong Kong and Mexico, too). With its wood-paneled walls, the surroundings are dignified enough for the corporate clientele that makes it a lunchtime headquarters (they often come back for dinner, too, joined by a good number of theater- and concert-goers). The staff is excellent by any standard, but compared to what often passes for service in New York steakhouses, it's a real standout.
Meat is the main event: steaks that come to the table as filet (in two sizes), porterhouse for two, ribeye, New York strip, or T-bone. Meaty lamb or veal chops satisfy those who don't love beef, and chicken or lobster fill in for the non-meat eater. Sides include potatoes fried, baked, or served au gratin; creamed spinach; onion rings; and broiled tomatoes. Desserts are hefty and rich: cheesecake, bread pudding, and a sinful chocolate and espresso cake.
