We'll admit to being already impressed with their fall collection when their fabulous cootie catcher invitation arrived. And at last night’s West Chelsea show, such innovation continued as Sternberg set both his men’s and women’s lines in a tableaux vivant with 24 models holding their poses in a constructed woods environment. Sternberg’s plaid obsession was obvious as both gals and guys donned tartan pieces from trousers to jackets. And raccoon trapper hats and “cashmere varsity gloves” were clearly the accessories of choice.
But in the end, what most impressed us was the staging. The ethereal, woodsy landscape with antique furniture and scattered leaves proved to be a great way for photographers and editors to absorb and capture the vibe of the clothing. As we left, we spotted Barneys creative director Simon Doonan. Known for his over-the-top window displays, Doonan’s revolutionized the way stores stage their merchandise. We can only guess that he’d applaud this show’s efforts.
