Fashion Week: Day three
Rock and Republic goes gangster for fall.
We're still dreaming about Threeasfour's fall collection. Inspired by "the architectural principles of ancient Russia," these avant-garde darlings created outfits that were wearable and yet still stayed true to this design collective's love of biomorphic-inspired layerings. Our favorite piece? A kohlrabi green evening dress with wisps of cascading silk fabric. And of course, the presence of Anna Wintour front and center gave the show a stamp of establishment approval.

Next stop was the Rock and Republic show. We knew that this event was going to be a production, yet we weren't ready for the standing room mob scene. Naively armed with a standing room pass, we joined throngs of others and anxiously waited to get the go-ahead into the tent. However, after standing for an hour, they finally told us that the show was closed and we could watch the collection on the TV monitors. Although many people were visibly upseta few even got into shouting matches with securitywe shrugged our shoulders and got a much needed vodka-cranberry and took our place at the TV sets. And even though we still wish we got inside, standing around with other people sipping drinks and gasping as two models tripped and hearing sentiments like "at least she held it" echoed, made the experience feel sort of like being at a sporting event. Or maybe we just have the Superbowl on our mind.

Earlier today, we caught Tracy Reese's fall collection. Even if you weren't familiar with her whimsical, feminine designs, just reading the program's notes reveled the level of creative imagination that goes into her work. Colors such as "stormy blue," Rhododendron rose," "green grass," "oatmeal" and "raven" dominated this collection with a romantic mood being further set by the stormy sea painting backdrop. And being that we're hat-obsessed, we have to applaud Jennifer Ouellette's hats. This is the second time Ouellette has designed pieces for Tracy Reese and we hope it’s a collaboration that continues. This season, Ouellette’s beret-style caps provided the perfect compliment to Reese’s classic-yet-flirty fashion.
