Fashion Week guide
What's kicking off in a few days that has nothing to do with the Super Bowl? Fashion Week! Starting this Friday, Bryant Park will become style central. No invite? No money? No problem. In addition to some party and runway highlights, we've got some events (some even free) where you can indulge your fashion fever.

Peroni & Vogue Present: 50 Years of Italian Style
You’ve got to admit it: Italians have style. Don’t believe us? Swing by the “50 Years of Italian Style” exhibit at Chelsea’s Twelve 21 for confirmation. Hosted by Peroni and Vogue, this show highlights Italian fashion with iconic photography that's appeared in Vogue Italia, Casa Vogue and L’Uomo Vogue. And, if you want to see what contemporary street style looks like, don't miss The Sartorialist’s exhibit at Danziger Projects.

GenArt's Staerk Fall 2008
Known for its fashion week shows, GenArt usually showcases three up-and-coming designers; past talent includes Zac Posen, Phillip Lim and Rebecca Taylor. This season, though, GenArt has decided to focus exclusively on one designer: Camilla Staerk. A Denmark native, Staerk has earned a devoted following that includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Julianne Moore, The Raveonettes and Helena Christensen. Citing inspiration from sculptor Louise Nevelson, Staerk admits, “Louise Nevelson showed me that there is another way of being an American, a New Yorker. You channel the energy of the city through yourself, your own personality and obsessions.” So what does that mean for the clothes? Expect lots of dark colors and romantic textures of leather and lace. Even if you're not a GenArt member, you can still attend the show at the Scandinavia House, buy purchasing tickets here.

The Heart’s Truth fashion show

Who says fashion's has no heart? Working in collaboration with National Wear Red Day to raise awareness of women’s heart disease, The Heart’s Truth fashion show features the crimson creations of such designers as Badgley Mischka, Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Rodarte, Zac Posen and more. And if you're looking for more charitable causes, check out the runway of Sass and Bide. This season marks the return of label co-founder Heidi Middleton, who recently battled breast cancer. Their "Rainbows for Kate" collection is dedicated to a woman Heidi met in her support group who later passed away.

After-Parties

Of course, Fashion Week wouldn’t be Fashion Week without some revelry. And it looks like Erin Fetherston’s Friday party at the Gramercy Park Hotel's private roof deck has all the ingredients for a successful party. Great venue? Check. Great time? Check. And with fans that include Kirsten Dunst, Cameron Diaz and Zooey Deschanel, it looks like we can also check off great guest list. And for Project Runway fans, be sure to take note of Victorya Hong's Friday after-party at the Hiro Ballroom. Just make sure you've got enough socializing stamina left for Saturday's Alexander Wang party at the Annex. Hosted again by model Erin Wasson and DJs Rukus and Spencer Sweeney, this bash promises to be even more of an affair to remember then last year's soiree.
