The recently opened Christian Lacroix’s flagship has some imposing neighbors, from Chanel to Yves Saint Laurent and Burberry to Louis Vuitton. But this native of Arles with a background in art history has a vision that’s strong enough to separate him from the lux pack with his new space radiating with luxurious patterns, flashy graphic details and intrepid color. Along the walls, each clothing piece outshines the next. Even the fitting rooms display old world French with crown moldings and ceiling appliqués illuminated by contemporary chandeliers. And for those wanting some Lacroix downtown, you might just get your wish. "One day, maybe we'll open a store in the lower part of Manhattan," said Lacroix. "Why not? New York is always changing, there are always new places in the city that are exciting.”
