However, the real revelations came in the performances, with more than a few contestants falling apart, one or two making up for a poor showing last week and some of our faves further establishing themselves as the ones to beat.

The judges’ table
Simon's harshest slam: “Look, the simple truth is: last week was boring, and this week was just awkward and ordinary.” (Snap!)
Randy’s most repetitive comment: Randy sure was the downer this week. In his excessive criticism we learned that what is a good song choice for you isn’t necessarily a good choice for him. What's up, dawg?
Least intelligible Paula-ism: “I wanted to squish you, squeeze your head off and dangle you from my rearview mirror.” (Was that a reasonably coherent sentence? Someone’s growing up!)
The good, the bad and the pitchy
The frontrunners: After an anticlimactic debut last week, this season’s most talked about contestant, Carly Smithson, finally brought the goods. As for the guys, David Archuleta’s rendition of “Imagine” solidified his lead on pretty much everyone.
Who should get the axe? Jason Yeager’s mom dancing and Amanda Overmyer’s complete lack of taste wouldn’t even be forgivable if they could sing. And since they can’t, their stay on “Idol” should end tonight.
Who will America vote off? Yeager and Overmyer will be sent packing for sure, and our money is on Luke Menard and Alexandréa Lushington joining them. Even his doe-eyed tween girl fan base can’t possibly overlook Luke’s admission of being in an adult a capella group.
