Punked Up
You've been listening to so much Ramones this week you're beginning to think Mondo Bizzaro was a good album. Now you need a release because it's Friday and you want to pretend to be half your age. These are the bars.

Manitoba's -
99 Ave. B - New York (East Village)
Report this commentOwned by Handsome Dick, a punk legend, Manitoba's is the last best embodiement of what the neighborhood once was. Find as many MC5 albums as the jukebox can spare then stare blindly at the photo on the wall of David Bowie clearly wanting to jump David Johansson's bones.

Motor City Bar -
127 Ludlow St - New York (Lower East Side)
Report this commentAll that MC5 has put you in the mood for some trashy, between the thumb and index finger, Michigan fun. Motor City Bar is where all the angry hipsters like to hang; the joint can get loud and packed so, as you can imagine, it's the perfect date bar for you and Courtney Love

The Local 269 -
269 E. Houston St. - New York (East Village)
Report this commentI think they still have Hot Snakes on the jukebox. And a pool table! Is that punk? I'll tell you what is though: Pabst and a bourbon shot. Now guess which bar has that special? You get one.

Mars Bar -
25 E. 1st St. - New York (East Village)
Report this commentEnough with the "200 Cigarettes" movie safe version of the punk scene. Mars is the Trees Lounge version of that old scene. It's where punks go to fade out slowly, talk about welfare checks, illegal drugs, and Santana records. Actually this bar is very scary if you walk in with anything but an attitude. Posers please avoid.

Crif Dogs -
113 St. Marks Pl. - New York (East Village)
Report this commentNot exactly where I'd imagine a young Johnny Thunders would have eaten but it's still relatively cheap and small and the menu is hot dogs. Hot Dogs are the most punk of all the food groups, beating out red devil food cake for the 7th year in the row.

6
Parkside Lounge -
317 E. Houston St. - New York (East Village)
Report this commentParkside might be the most punk bar in this list because it's not affiliated with punk at all. And what's more punk than that? Save here for last if only for the pitchers of Pabst you'll hold onto to keep the room from spinning.
